Charleston Water
Conservancy
District
The CWCD was established to manage and conserve water resources, aiming to ensure a reliable and sustainable water supply, while also promoting water conservation practices. We are responsible for managing water supplies to meet the needs of the community while protecting the water source itself.
Water is a precious resource and at CWCD we aim to protect it
Where is your Water?
Water is used in various ways in the home, and each use serves a different purpose, from daily living activities to maintaining a comfortable and clean environment.
Water is used extensively in homes for purposes such as drinking, cooking, cleaning, hygiene, cooling, and maintaining landscaping.
If you’re trying to conserve water or reduce your usage, focusing on high-usage areas like showering, dishwashing, and laundry is a good place to start. Simple changes like using low-flow fixtures, washing clothes in cold water, or reducing watering times for plants can make a big difference.

From Treatment to Home
Our conservancy district’s ability to manage water quality supply chain (from source to treatment to distribution) directly affects the safety and reliability of the water supply. Effective coordinated efforts and careful quality management ensures that water provided to the public is not only sufficient in quantity but also safe for all uses—whether drinking, bathing, cooking, or sanitation.
